After a tortuous, but determined, fifteen (15) year campaign for more commercial opportunity – specifically for micro-businesses based within the borough – Urbanis have finally, been awarded a contract by the London Borough of Hackney, following an extensive procurement process.

Confirmed on the 14 July 2017, the contract commands the undertaking of general building works across the borough to complement the commendable effort of the in-house DLO [direct labour organisation] and will run for a period of 12 months. The attractive and increasingly relevant ‘social value’ proposition offered to public sector clients who continue to work with Urbanis, can be observed here – Urbanis (Social Value Offer)

Urbanis Founder & Executive Director, Bola Abisogun FRICS went on to say – “we are truly humbled to have secured this critical contract opportunity to positively assist the London Borough of Hackney with their on-going transition to becoming a more diverse employer, simultaneously assisting the local economy to thrive where-ever possible. Historically, local businesses, in particular those owned by BME professionals – for as long as we have been in existence – haven’t been given the exposure or contract opportunities to participate in the continued delivery programmes administered by Hackney Council. In 2002, I took it upon myself to work relentlessly in seeking to demonstrate the business case for greater diversity within the appointed Supply Chain(s) and this process, after 15yrs, has finally yielded a small opportunity, which we intend to build upon. It’s a HUGE success for local, BME businesses too……..! This success would not have been possible but for the ‘inclusive leadership team’ led by current and previous champions, Deputy Mayor, Cllr Bramble, Tim Shields (Chief Executive), Chris Hudson (previous Director of Procurement & Fleet) and Angela Phillips (Directorate Procurement Manager, Construction and Public Realm)….all of whom should be recognised, publicly, for their on-going commitment to supplier diversity……..”
